Merl is on the western side of Luxembourg City, next to Belair. It is a smaller, mostly residential district, with 6,602 residents at the end of 2025 according to the City of Luxembourg.

The Parc de Merl, with its pond, is one of the city’s best-known parks, and the International School of Luxembourg is in the district.

That makes Merl a natural search area for international families, who often look for a house or a large apartment close to the school.
